Scientific NameLamprocapnos spectabilis
AdaptationsSince many areas have different climatic temperatures and soil temperatures, the bleeding heart has the ability to grow in most weather conditions and soils, allowing it to have a higher chance of growing in different areas. The seeds are black with white appendages. The white appendages attract ants; therefore the ants carry the seed to their nest, eat the white area and then leave the seed to grow, allowing the plant to repopulate and spread its territory.
Human ImpactThe bleeding heart is known to be very beautiful, yet very poisonous. It has a deadly poison called Alkaloid, known to poison humans and pets. Symptoms include trembling, agitation, vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions and impaired breathing. Due to these effects, this plant is very rarely found in peoples gardens, and for this reason is usually destroyed or not planted by people.
