Scientific NameAsteroidea
AdaptationsA sea star is quite vulnerable to predators. The sea star has the ability to regenerate any of its arms, if they are torn off by a predator. This can only occur if the centre circle of the starfish is intact. Since the terrain in the ocean is rocky and has many obstacles to climb, the sea star has sucker-like feet on it's arms, which are used to cling onto surfaces, and slowly scale them.
Human ImpactWe as humans have been occasionally dumping chemical wastes into the ocean, causing the sea stars to spread apart from each other. Therefore, the sea stars are unable to mingle with each other causing their population to decrease. Additionally, this also genetically modifies them making them more diverse.
